As a Portland, Oregon artist, I've always felt most comfortable entering other universes. Diving head-first into a great fantasy book or experiencing a transformative album is a feeling that is unmatched for me. The digital art world is an incredible breeding ground for unique ideas about creating and entering new worlds and universes, which is why it has always brought me comfort. I can open my laptop and experience endless inspiration for whimsical illustrations and unique art prints. My favorite thing about art is that it gives you the freedom to build a completely new universe. We as humans create our own original ideas that have the ability to transport the viewer into another world completely, and that is something that I constantly strive for in my surrealist artwork.
Growing up in Portland, Oregon, I lived between two worlds. One is a lively city full of inspiration in culture and aesthetics. The other is the world of nature that my family immersed me in from as far back as I can remember. My "granola" parents, as I so lovingly call them, made sure me and my sister were immersed in the Oregon landscapes that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, inspiring my nature art and landscape prints.
I judge books by their covers. I have always been drawn to visuals. I remember when my mom used to take me to the bookstore down the street to pick books for upcoming camping trips, I would exclusively judge books by their covers. In my mind, a good book cover art tells you everything you need to know about the book at a glance. This can be a simple and eye-catching graphic or an elaborate illustration, influencing my approach to creating visually compelling art for book lovers and even my bookmark designs
